Saint Francis de Paola began his life as a hermit in Calabria, Italy, in 1416. He attained such fame as a worker of miracles that the dying King Louis XI of France sent for him and begged to be healed. Francis told the king that the lives of kings are in the hands of God and that he should pray to God. He brought about a change of heart in the king, and Louis died, comforted, in his arms. Saint Francis is the patron saint of sailors, and all people associated with the sea and his feast day is April 2nd.
